Lack of Afro is Adam Gibbons, who lacks both an Afro and the deep suntan normally expected from the sound of 70s funk. The name might be a joke but the music isn’t, as Gibbons belts out pukka-sounding 70s soul, funk and disco, with some hip-hop thrown in. The sound is either peak Earth Wind and Fire or the Jacksons, though the more modern self-awareness also reminds us rock/funk band Do Me Bad Things and Jack Splash’s PlantLife (Jack was once in a band called Semi Hendrix, which featured CeeLo Green).

The opening track here is a former single single Back To The Day, a Jackson five / Earth Wind and Fire soundalike. Elsewhere he does more soulful numbers, Don’t Do Me Over being the best. All thoroughly enjoyable and well done. Vocals come from a variety of people: Elliot Cole, Juliette Ashby, Wax, Alyssa Marie and Camila Recchio, Herbal T, Emma Noble and Nick Corbin.
