Steve ‘n’ Seagulls: Another Miracle

For those who don’t know, Steve ‘n’ Seagulls (think about it) are Finns who play proficient bluegrass while doing covers of famous rock tracks. We think their cover of AC/DC’s Thunderstruck made their name, but looking for information on this, we found it riding high in the US bluegrass chart, so it must be good enough for bluegrass aficionados to take it for what it is.

We guess they’re a band that makes its money touring, although it’s most affective as an album to sit and listen to (US bluegrass fans clearly agree).

It opens with Metallica’s Master of Puppets but is followed by what appears to be an original, Joe’s Little Baby, a much better song. Uprising follows, also an original and decent enough; an album of originals might have been better but presumably the fans want covers.

The non-originals include Moneytalks from AC/DC, a blisteringly fast cover of My Sharona that makes The Dickies seem slow and swampy Cajun-ish take on Carry On Wayward Son.
