A slightly misleading title for this triple CD: two CDs are songs picked by BBC listeners, and only on CD3 are there BBC sessions; as a collection of songs it is excellent.
Britpop was never a musical movement, just a marketing tool that coincided with a cocky new PM and some really good tunes, which go down particularly well in this nice weather.
It opens with Wonderwall then there’s everything from Parklife to Common People and from Shed Seven to New Order, Catatonia and Ash. Creep features, probably just to annoy Radiohead. Live tracks come from the likes of Blur, Pulp, Suede, Supergrass and Manic Street Preachers as well as, splendidly, Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci.
